Designer Kate spends much of the off-season exploring India, with an eye to hunting unique and interesting treasures to stock in her boutique.
There are many desirable and covetable pieces. We stock gorgeous gold-plated jewellery, some gemstone-set, designed and produced in Rajasthan. Look through a wonderful selection of unusual handicrafts and soft cashmere shawls. One of our most sought-after lines is eclectic and maverick: an ever-changing collection of one-off vintage finds, engraved brass tiffins, framed prints of Hindu deities, Jaipur miniatures, vintage erotica and 50’s tin-ware.
After graduating from New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology Kate worked as costume designer and stylist in film and television. Inevitably, friends asked her to make bespoke pieces. Thus her own lingerie and clothes lines followed, through a decade, each finessing current fashions. Limited edition ranges sold in Cape Town, New York and even Varkala.
Kate’s Jaali collection is wearable, feminine, elegantly cut and very flattering. You could buy a simple linen dress or a silk satin party piece. Wear on holiday in Goa and when you get back home, your friends will want to know your summer retail secret.
Kate’s small range of menswear in cotton, linen and hemp looks and feels really good too.
Homeware is a natural extension of the Jaali label. Kate has designed a range of block-printed bed linen. This is a contemporary take on the form, using mid-century modern Asia-inspired motifs. We make summer-weight pure cotton quilts, pillow and cushion slips and the luxurious dohar, originating from Rajasthan, a traditional three-layer muslin blanket.
India inspires. Kate has selected her favourite pieces from fellow designers and these too are on offer, in perfectly small runs. Currently, we stock lovely Bengali cotton scarves, divine bikinis for Goan beaches, delicately-embroidered crepe blouses, cute cotton day dresses and jumpsuits.
A shopper’s paradise awaits you in our beautiful garden, or visit our more chic sister store in Agonda, just a few kilometres north of Patnem.
